Hello! Heya. Hi.
I’m Mark. While I’ve tried on some different hats — I have an engineering degree and I was a Marine Officer for four years — I’ve always been a creative person at heart. Over the course of my career I’ve been lucky to work with brands like Netflix, Harley-Davidson, and Toyota. Whether it’s branding a sustainable outerwear startup or designing a friend’s MFA thesis book, I bring sophistication, clarity, wit, and a thoughtful approach to every project I work on. I firmly believe that good design feels good.
My thoughts on creating thoughtful work
Strategy + intuition = success
Every great project starts with great strategy and is honed through intuition and craft. Once we’ve landed on what makes your brand or project truly unique, I can amplify that to craft truly unique solutions.
Get with the system
Don’t get me wrong: I love a great logo as much as anyone else. But a brand is more than a logo. It’s a visual and verbal language system that can be applied to all brand touchpoints and can grow as your organization grows. That’s why I keep a systems mindset when developing a brand or project.
Collaboration
I find the synergy of collaboration essential to making the best work possible. You need to be happy with the work. I need to be happy with the work. The best way to get there is together.
Process
Discover
Good work is intelligent work. Whether we’re creating a new brand, designing a book, or crafting a new website, this is the research and discussion phase where I’ll take a deep dive into your world — coming out of it with a smart and honed point of view to proceed with.
Build
Now that we have a foundation, we can build. In this phase, I’ll create a range of concepts based on our research. We’ll review and refine those concepts, landing on one to implement.
Implement
In this phase, I take our approved concept and apply it to create actual deliverables. Deliverables will vary widely depending on the project, but I’ll make sure you have all the assets you need to share your brand or project with your audience and the world.
